FINANCE NEWS: Cancer Research forms shares deal with stockbroker

A telephone and online share dealing company has teamed up with Cancer Research UK to offer a system for shareholders to donate shares.

Stocktrade has agreed a discounted commission scheme with the charity, which it says will provide a simple way for people to donate shares tax efficiently.

The company already has similar partnerships with the Scottish Community Foundation and the National Trust for Scotland.

Leven Brown, alliance manager at Stocktrade, said instead of charging up to 1 per cent commission on the value of shares donated, it would charge between 0.5 per cent and 0.2 per cent.

"We won't be making any money on this but we won't be losing any either,

he said.

Brown said the company was also talking to two other charities about an affiliate share dealing scheme, in which it would donate 30 per cent of its commission.
