FINANCE NEWS: CFDG and CAF add weight behind call for new charity bill

Voluntary sector finance bodies the Charity Finance Directors' Group and Charities Aid Foundation have both joined the Charities Bill Coalition, the campaign to ensure that the Government implements long-awaited reform of charity law through legislation.

The coalition, launched at NCVO's annual conference in February, now has 29 members including the British Red Cross, Amnesty International and Cancer Research UK.

Shirley Scott, director of CFDG, said: "It's important not to lose the impetus for change created by the two government reviews published last year. Several of the recommended changes will facilitate more straightforward accounting, especially in charity trading, which our members will welcome."

Chris Stalker, head of campaigns at NCVO, said that everybody in the Charities Bill Coalition was determined to ensure that charity law "makes it from the shelf onto the statute books" and does not slip down the political agenda.
