FINANCE NEWS: NCVO in request for research to assess impact of the euro

The NCVO is calling on the Government to fund research on how the changeover to the euro has affected charities in Eurozone countries.

A report, Ready for Change, launched at the umbrella body's annual conference today, says that almost one-third of voluntary organisations in the UK already carry out transactions in euros.

But the NCVO believes the sector has to think more carefully about the potential impact of the euro if it is introduced in the UK. It recommends that charities conduct a "euro audit" to gauge the effect of currency change on themselves and their beneficiaries.

"Charities need to identify and minimise the potential negative impacts that may occur," said NCVO chief executive Stuart Etherington. "It is evident that the vast majority of organisations will need extra support and guidance from both government and the sector, in order to prepare successfully."
