Focus on ... Student volunteers

Recent research conducted on behalf of the Institute for Volunteering Research shows that 40 per cent of 16 to 24 year-olds have been involved in volunteering, which suggests that they volunteer as much as older people

- The research also says that although most of them have positive views of volunteering, a minority of young people believe that it is boring and not 'cool'

- Following a Government proposal to offer cash to students who volunteer, other research found that 75 per cent of students would volunteer if it meant a reduction in their college fees.
