Foundation to use corporate funding for training centre

The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland is setting up a training centre to help local community groups to learn about different methods of funding after receiving £150,000 from the Abbey Charitable Trust.

The foundation will use the Effective Fund Development Centre to run training courses and workshops.

Avila Kilmurray, director of the foundation, said the funding had come at a crucial time for charities in Northern Ireland. “Over the next three years, charities and voluntary organisations in Northern Ireland expect to see a decrease in financial support,” she said.

“The funding from Abbey Charitable Trust will help the foundation to provide charities and voluntary organisations in the region with the appropriate advice and training to seek and secure funding from other sources.”

Alan Eagle, manager of Abbey Charitable Trust, said he had been impressed with the impact of the foundation’s work in Northern Ireland. “This is a fantastic example of a charity that will provide enormous benefit to local communities, by providing practical advice and helping charities secure funding,” he said.
