Free guide on running an effective charity launched

The publication has been produced by the think tank New Philanthropy Capital

The think tank New Philanthropy Capital has launched a free guide that aims to set out the key aspects of an effective charity or social enterprise.

What makes a good charity?which was released today, focuses on four areas: purpose, impact practice, people and finance and operations.

The guide endeavours to explain why each area is important, the key questions to ask and sets out the factors that can help determine an organisation’s effectiveness.

NPC said in a statement that the guide was aimed at charity leaders, grant-makers, philanthropists and others with an interest in the sector.

The guide is a reboot of NPC’s Little Blue Book, which has been downloaded more than 15,000 times since its launch in 2010.

Iona Joy, the head of NPC’s charity team and co-author of the guide, said: "Our new guide draws on everything we’ve learnt from working with charities and funders over the last 15 years.

"As well as going back to basics on topics such as getting finances and governance right, we share the latest thinking on topics such as user involvement in running charities and responding to the digital revolution. We hope it kick-starts lots of conversations and inspires new ways of doing things."
