Fresh research on impact of social enterprise

New research will examine ways to increase the impact made by social enterprise on society, the Office of the Third Sector has announced.

In partnership with other government agencies, the OTS will examine the ways social enterprise can be used to improve living standards across the UK.

The research will look at various issues, including: the use of community bonds and shares to help local communities take charge of the buildings that serve their needs; the social return of organisations working in healthcare; the growth of community development finance institutions; and the work of existing social enterprises that reduce the risk of criminals reoffending.

Kevin Brennan, Minister for the Third Sector, announced the research last week at a reception to celebrate Social Enterprise Day.

"Social enterprises have the ability to get people round a table, to get ideas and people moving and to turn resources into results," he said.
