FUNDRAISING NEWS: Charities join online donors' New Year's resolution scheme

Charities are taking the opportunity to make a prosperous start to 2004 by joining a new scheme that asks supporters to collect sponsorship for their favourite cause for sticking to their New Year's resolutions.

The scheme, offered by online giving portal Justgiving, is designed to give supporters an extra incentive to see their resolutions through, while helping charities raise money.

Each supporter is given a fundraising web page of their own which they can use to tell friends and family about their chosen challenge, and to collect credit and debit card donations and messages of support. Money is then donated to a charity chosen by the supporter from a list of more than 400, ranging from Age Concern to WWF and the Youth Sport Trust.

The service, available at just giving.com/newyearsresolutions, automatically reclaims Gift Aid on all donations by UK taxpayers.
