SARAH SCADDAN, corporate & trust fundraiser ...
What is the funding for? Core funding for the Coram Parents Centre, an established service that works with more than 1,000 parents and children in King's Cross, London, each year. It supports parents and encourages parental understanding and involvement in their children's learning and development. The Government launched its Sure Start scheme at the centre in 1998 and it is one of the most widely visited centres in the UK.
Do you need further funding? The centre was set up through a seven-year Single Regeneration Budget grant in 1997. Some projects are now funded by other sources but there was still a substantial gap of more than £200,000 per year. The Mercers' Company funding will close that gap for the next three years.
How many trusts or foundations did you apply to for this funding? Only the Mercers' Company, which awarded the centre a smaller three-year grant in 2001.
Which of your other projects has the organisation previously funded?
The Mercers' Company has funded parenting groups and workshops in the Coram Parents Centre and parent groups in local primary schools over the past three years.
Was the application a simple process? Our existing relationship helped to speed up our application. Funding was secured after a series of meetings, site visits and finally a written proposal, which included a detailed business plan.
