FUNDRAISING NEWS: JK Rowling backs One Parent appeal

JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter children's books, has launched a book of short stories to raise funds for the National Council of One Parent Families' Magic Million Appeal.

She has written the foreword to Magic, a series of short stories by writers including Meera Syal, Joanne Harris, and Sue Townsend. Edited by Sarah Brown, wife of chancellor Gordon Brown, the book has already generated more than £50,000 in pre-sales.

Nick Rose, head of fundraising of the Magic Million Appeal, said: "We're hoping that the book will generate healthy funds and raise the profile of the work we do.
