FUNDRAISING NEWS: Macmillan Cancer Relief to raise £1m from bingo appeal

Bingo clubs are working together to raise £1 million in a week for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

The Bingo Association is managing the Game for Life week and hopes to raise £1 million for Macmillan's grant scheme for patients. The week will see individual clubs holding charity bingo games and special promotions.

Samantha Corfield, development manager at Macmillan's groups and associations department, believes that bingo players are attracted to the regional focus of the charity. "Bingo players are extraordinarily generous, and we have high hopes for this campaign,

she said.

In addition Gala Group, the UK's largest bingo operator, is donating £1 for every admission to its clubs across the country on Wednesday and it expects to raise about £250,000 throughout the week.

"It's a cornerstone of our business strategy to address the health of local communities,

said John Kelly, chief executive of Gala Group.
