FUNDRAISING NEWS: Multiple Sclerosis Society fundraiser week to raise £1m

The Multiple Sclerosis Society expects this year's fundraising week from 14 to 21 April to raise £1 million.

One of the main aims of Multiple Sclerosis week is to raise funds for the MRI scanner unit funded by the charity at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. A new £2.5 million research programme has recently been started to target treatments more effectively.

An ad campaign designed by Saatchi %26 Saatchi will be launched at the beginning of the week. Titled "Switch on to MS", the campaign will run across national broadsheets and highlight lesser-known symptoms of MS.

The charity will also run a direct mail campaign linking to its active database to target new supporters.

Shane Hickey, head of community fundraising at the society, said: "Because money is being raised regionally as well as nationally, we're going to put money generated by fundraising into local projects such as the UK tissue bank."
