Giving website announces philanthropists board

Philanthropic website TheBigGive.org.uk, which helps major donors find large charity projects to fund, has announced a Board of Philanthropists to encourage others to give.

The Board of Philanthropists comprises 22 high-profile individuals from the private, public and charitable sectors.

Members of the board include Lord Salisbury, former leader of the House of Lords, Lord Joffe, chair of the Government’s Giving Campaign, and Simon Murdoch, who launched Amazon’s online bookstore in the UK.

The board will actively endorse the website and provide feedback on its development. It will also encourage other major donors to give intelligently.

Alec Reed, founder of TheBigGive, said: “I am delighted to announce the 22 exceptional individuals on our Board of Philanthropists, including six members of the House of Lords, two knights of the realm and several dotcom experts. Their endorsement will attract many more high-wealth individuals interested in intelligent effective giving.”

He added: “The depth of philanthropy, business and technology expertise on the board gives us an unrivalled perspective as we develop heBigGive into an essential tool for high-level philanthropy.”

The site launched in October 2007 to charities and holds more than £1bn worth of projects for philanthropists can fund.

Charities can register projects that require funding of between £100,000 and £10m.
