Breckell, who will take up the job on 20 August, says he wants to see the charity grow its international networks

Action on Hearing Loss has appointed Paul Breckell as chief executive.

Breckell has been with Action on Hearing Loss for five years and is currently the charity’s managing director for corporate resources. Breckell will take up the job on 20 August and replaces Jackie Ballard, who is leaving to become chief executive of the women’s rights charity Womankind.

Breckell will have the responsibility for drawing up the charity’s strategy for the next five years, a process that will include consultation with staff, supporters and other external stakeholders.

In a statement, Breckell said: "I want Action on Hearing Loss to have a vibrant and passionate national voice, defending the rights of people who are deaf or have hearing loss. I would like to see us grow our international networks, bringing us more profile for our biomedical research, but also enabling us to share learning and best practice."

Gerald Corbett, chair of Action on Hearing Loss, said: "We are delighted to have been able to recruit someone with the exceptional ability and experience of Paul to lead Action on Hearing Loss through its next stage of strategic development."
