The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator says more than 2,000 charities have logged on to its new online accounts return service
More than 10 per cent of charities in Scotland have made use of a new online accounts return service, according to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.
The regulator launched an online service nearly two months ago after more than 11,500 charities - nearly half of all those in Scotland - said that they wanted to file accounts and update their details electronically.
The OSCR said a total of 2,354 charities had logged into the system. Of those, 656 had submitted annual returns through the system and 285 had used it to update their details.
David Robb, chief executive of the OSCR, said he believed the number of charities taking up the service would gradually increase. He said: "We've seen a really positive start to OSCR Online, with the new system proving robust and a good proportion of charities logging on – but I want to encourage those other charities to try out the new system and experience for themselves just how easy it is to use."
The online register is not yet compulsory for Scottish charities, although the OSCR says on its website that it hopes charities will move from paper returns to the electronic system.
