Between £5m and £6m will be available to organisations that work in health and social care in England, says Department of Health

Between £5m and £6m of funding will be available to charities in 2014/15 from the Department of Health’s Innovation, Excellence and Strategic Development Fund.

Norman Lamb, the care minister, launched the latest round of IESD funding yesterday. The money will be available to voluntary and community organisations that work to improve health and social care in England, a statement from the DoH said.

Organisations applying for funding will also need to show commitment to health and social care priorities, including improving public health and delivering safe and compassionate care.

A spokeswoman for the DoH said the government was yet to decide how much the 2014/15 fund would be worth but funding was usually worth between £5m and £6m. In 2013/14, 49 charities received a share of £5.5m from the IESD fund, with awards ranging from £24,496 to £408,783, she said.

Applicants have until 11 October to apply for the funding, which will be awarded from 1 April onwards. There is no maximum or minimum limit on the amount of funding that organisations can apply for, but "projects should be aware that this is a budget-limited scheme", the DoH spokeswoman said.

Lamb said in a statement that the funding would help voluntary organisations to improve lives and strengthen relationships between services and the community. "It is crucial that we continue to champion our voluntary organisations, because their expertise allows them to design and develop innovative solutions to the big challenges we face in health, public health and social care," he said.
