Get a grip on role of NGOs, says MP

The Department for International Development must get a better grip on the role NGOs such as Oxfam and the Red Cross can play in helping people in developing countries.

This was the conclusion of a report into DfID's work with civil society organisations, which was published by the Public Accounts Committee last week.

"The department seems to have taken its eye off the ball in relation to civil society groups," said Edward Leigh MP, chairman of the public accounts committee. "DfID now needs to get a better grip on the role these organisations can and should play."
