Help the Aged line keeps free status

Help the Aged has backed down on plans to charge for its flagship advice line after identifying alternative cost savings.

The charity had considered charging 9p per minute for its SeniorLine to reduce its £6m revenue shortfall (Third Sector, 10 December 2003), but will instead introduce call filtering.

"Call filtering will enable callers requesting general information such as telephone numbers or advice leaflets to be dealt with quickly and efficiently," said Steve Jones, director of communications at the charity.
