Kaphan makes a noise at Variety Club

Children's charity Variety Club has appointed Norman Kaphan as its new chief barker - its equivalent of a chief executive. The post is taken by a different person each year.

Kaphan, who has been involved with Variety Club since 1989, succeeds Russ Kane in the post; his main task will be to attract high-value donors and corporate partners to boost the charity’s activities supporting sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

Kaphan said: “I am very excited to have this opportunity of spearheading the charity and look forward to carrying forward the many important developments that Variety Club has achieved in recent years.”

Over the past three years, Kaphan was chairman of the charity’s Sunshine Coach Committee, an initiative that provided 478 coaches to schools, hospitals, hospices and various organisations caring for disabled children.
