Mencap adds classical concerts to its musical output

Mencap is planning to build on the success of its annual fundraising indie music concerts with two classical music events to raise funds for its Arts Awards Scheme.

The Lost Proms will feature a combination of rarely heard and more popular classical compositions, performed by the New London Orchestra and various guest artists.

The events will form part of the charity's Mencap Music brand, launched in 2006. The charity has also had success with the annual Little Noise Sessions indie concerts.

"Our goal is to have a collection of unique music events that appeal to different audiences so we can maximise fundraising potential," said Vanessa Longley, head of fundraising at Mencap.

Money raised through Mencap Music helps children with disabilities to take part in local arts projects. The Lost Proms will take place on 3 and 4 June at Cadogan Hall in Chelsea.
