David Ainsworth's round-up of what's happening in the finance world

The Charities Aid Foundation has given its backing to a legal form proposed by the European Commission that would allow grant-making charities to operate anywhere in the EU and receive the same tax treatment as local organisations. Responding to a commission consultation about the European Foundation legal form, CAF said it supported the proposal, but was worried that it would not address all the difficulties posed by cross-border giving.

Social Enterprise London, in partnership with third sector law company Bates Wells & Braithwaite, has produced a guide to the legal forms and ways of financing social enterprise. For more information on this and other publications available to support social enterprise, visit www.sel.org.uk/publications.html.

Co-operatives 2009, the annual conference for the cooperative movement, will take place from 26 to 28 June in Old Windsor, Berkshire. The keynote speech will be given by Vince Cable, the Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman. To find out more, visit www.cooperatives-uk.coop/live/cme0.htm.
