Quinn joins the charity for the spiritual and social welfare of seafarers after a career in the Royal Navy, where he served on submarines, minesweepers, frigates and an aircraft carrier before being seconded to the Royal Australian Navy as commanding officer of its technical training school.

"Paul's experience will be of great benefit to us as he works to establish the Apostleship of the Sea as a dynamic and progressive charity at the forefront of marine welfare," said Eamonn Delaney, chair of the Catholic charity.

Quinn will succeed Commodore Chris York.
