Batty joins WaterAid after 11 years with the civil service. Her most recent position was deputy director of the European Secretariat in the Cabinet Office. She succeeds Stephen Turner, who retires after 17 years with the international development charity.

"WaterAid does a tremendous practical job in delivering water and sanitation to more than a million people every year," said Batty. "Our policy challenge is to help achieve changes that will give the billions of people lacking water and sanitation access to these crucial services."
