MSF UK seeks help with petition for abducted volunteer

Medecins Sans Frontieres UK (MSF UK) is appealing for help in raising awareness of a petition calling on the Russian Government to secure the release of one of its international workers kidnapped in Dagestan last year.

MSF UK wants international aid and development charities to include a link to the online petition on their web sites and ask supporters to sign it.

It aims to present the petition to the Russian government at the end of the month.

In the seven months since the kidnapping of Arjan Erkel, head of mission of MSF in the northern Caucasus, the Russian Federal authorities have failed to provide MSF with any information as to why or by whom Erkel was abducted and how to secure his release.

"The abduction of any aid worker undermines relief work undertaken by an international agency," said Martyn Broughton, head of communications at MSF UK.
