National Childminding Association rebrands as Pacey

Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years will offer 'one voice', say joint chief executives Catherine Farrell and Liz Bayram

The National Childminding Association has changed its name to the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years.

The charity also has a new logo and a revamped website as part of its strategy to become the professional association for everyone working in childcare.

Catherine Farrell, one of the charity’s two joint chief executives, said that as part of the changes Pacey was expanding its membership to include nursery workers for the first time.

The charity, which had an income of £11.2m in 2011/12, has 35,000 members, including childminders, nannies and nursery workers, and is looking to grow.

"It is about positioning ourselves as a standard-setting professional association for childminders, nannies and nursery workers, and we are on a journey to become that," said Farrell.

The charity said the rebrand cost "less than £40,000", which was part of its core business plan, so members would face no additional costs.

Farrell said the charity had worked on the rebrand for about a year, including consultation with members through the various stages.

In a joint statement, Farrell and the charity’s other chief executive, Liz Bayram, said: "Pacey is being launched at a critical time for childcare when multiple changes are being considered, from new entry and qualification requirements to childminder agencies and ratio changes.

"For the first time Pacey will enable one voice to represent all childcare professionals."
