Navca grants for local groups

Infrastructure bodies will share Capacitybuilders funding

Umbrella body Navca has announced the 12 local infrastructure organisations that will receive a share of its £25,000 Network Support Grants.

The fund, provided by Capacitybuilders, will be split between the successful bidders throughout the UK and is part of Navca's programme to support third sector groups through the recession.

Winners include a bid from Derby Millennium Network to assess the effect of the recession on minority communities and a proposal from Learning South West to run a conference for local networks of voluntary youth organisations.

Small voluntary groups and local infrastructure organisations were invited to submit joint proposals to the scheme, so they could use the money to organise shared training and network activities for their staff.

"Local infrastructure organisations across the country are coming together to help their local organisations through the recession," said Bill Freeman, director of development at Navca. "With this small amount of investment, we're supporting them to share ideas and intelligence and develop imaginative solutions together."
