Money matters: community shares, the Charity Finance Directors' Group on simplifying tax and a survey of Senscot members

A free seminar on funding local projects by issuing shares to members of the community will be held at Coin Street Community Centre in London on 15 July. At the seminar, Taking Ownership Local, initial findings will be presented from government-backed research into community shares carried out by the Development Trusts Association, Co-operatives UK and the SROI UK Network.

A government initiative to simplify the tax system will create opportunities for the third sector to lobby for change, according to the Charity Finance Directors' Group. The government outlined its commitment to a simpler, fairer and more accountable tax system in last week's Budget.

Only a quarter of Scottish social enterprises are happy with the service they receive from their banks, according to a survey of members of Senscot, the network for social entrepreneurs in Scotland. The survey, carried out with social lender Triodos, found that many organisations felt that banks did not understand the social enterprise sector.
