Money Matters: Charity Accountants' Conference, a YouGov poll and the Association of Consulting Actuaries

Third Sector, 31 August 2010

David Ainsworth's round-up of what's happening in the finance world.

The Charity Accountants' Conference will take place on 23-24 September at the Marriott Hotel in Bristol. Fit for the Future is aimed at finance professionals specialising in the charity sector. Speakers include Debra Allcock-Tyler, chief executive of the Directory of Social Change, and Kate Sayer, a partner at charity accounting firm Sayer Vincent.

A poll of more than 2,000 people in the UK has found that 69 per cent support the development of a post bank, credit unions and community development finance initiatives. The poll, carried out by YouGov for left-wing pressure group Compass and social investment charity Trident Reach, also found that 68 per cent favoured a cap on interest rates for all forms of consumer credit.

The Association of Consulting Actuaries is expecting charities with members in public sector pensions schemes to benefit from the initial recommendations of the Independent Public Service Pensions Commission, the body set up to suggest changes to public sector pensions. The initial recommendations will be published in September.
