Eight sector bodies, including the Institute of Fundraising and the NCVO, have voiced the sector's need for a Gift Aid database and online claims system
The government should create a standard database for Gift Aid claims and allow charities to file claims online before next year's Budget, a group of sector bodies have told Justine Greening, the economic secretary to the Treasury.
In a letter signed by eight organisations, including the Institute of Fundraising and the NCVO, the signatories call for a review of existing Gift Aid rules.
The letter asks for a review of existing guidance on areas including benefits for donors, sponsored events, membership schemes, oral Gift Aid declarations and text donations.
It also asks the government to consider making it easier for higher-rate taxpayers to redirect to charities the part of the tax rebate they can claim for themselves, and to encourage tax professionals to support charities that claim Gift Aid.
The other signatories to the letter are Arts & Business, the Charities Aid Foundation, the Charity Finance Directors' Group, the Charity Tax Group, Stewardship and the Small Charities Coalition.
