The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust has appointed Astrid Bonfield as chief executive.
Bonfield, who takes up her new role with immediate effect, will also remain chief executive of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, which is due to close this year after distributing more than £100m since 1997.
The trust was established in February to raise funds to support charitable projects throughout the Commonwealth.
Bonfield replaces Sue Wardell, who was on secondment to the trust from the Department for International Development. Wardell will now take up a new role as vice-president of corporate services at the African Development Bank Group.
Bonfield joined the memorial fund in 2005 from the Aga Khan Foundation, where she was director of policy, and before that worked for the Netherlands-based Bernard van Leer Foundation.
Sir John Major, former Prime Minister and chair of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, said: "As the trust moves into the next stage of its development, we are delighted to welcome Astrid as the new chief executive.
