Cabinet Office has published online adverts for positions of chief executive and director of operations at a 'new youth organisation'

The management of the National Citizen Service is to be taken over by a newly formed independent organisation, the Cabinet Office has confirmed

Advertisements for the positions of chief executive and director of operations at a "new youth organisation" have been published online.

The NCS, which is overseen by the Cabinet Office, offers young school leavers the chance to take part in projects including community work, physical challenges and residential placements. Up to 90,000 places will be available on the scheme by 2014.

The advert for the chief executive’s position says it is a "unique opportunity to lead a major new social enterprise that will impact on the lives of thousands of young people".

"You will be the driving force and visionary leader of this national life-changing programme for young people; increasing demand and creating an aspirational youth brand," it says.

"You will signify a new generation of social action and establish this programme in the national psyche long term."

The advert for the director of operations says that applicants will need to have the ability to provide first-class training and development on a national basis and set up a first-rate procurement function.

A spokeswoman for the Cabinet Office confirmed that the adverts were for the new body that would administer the NCS.

"As signalled in our invitation to tender earlier this year, the government wants the NCS to be administered by a new independent enterprise," she said.

She said the new body would "help NCS to thrive as it becomes available to many more teenagers, ensuring that it continues to offer a high-quality and value-for-money programme that inspires young people".

She said she could not provide any further details at this stage but added that the Cabinet Office would be making a formal announcement in the coming weeks.
