The Small Charities Coalition has appointed Alex Swallow as its new chief executive.

Swallow, the founder of Young Charity Trustees, will take over from Cath Lee, who is relocating to West Yorkshire with her family.

He will join the charity on 26 November and will work alongside Lee until 31 December, when she will leave.

The Small Charities Coalition merged with Charity Trustee Networks in March 2011. The combined charity acts as a support and networking organisation for trustees, staff and volunteers working in charities with income of less than £1m a year.

Debra Allcock Tyler, chair of the Small Charities Coalition, said: ‘‘We are delighted to welcome Alex on board as our new chief executive. He impressed us with his enthusiasm, and passion for and commitment to supporting the work of small charities and trustees – and his ideas and plans for the future are exciting."

Swallow added: "I am honoured to take on this role and to build on Cath's excellent work, with the support of the staff, the board and volunteers. I think the Small Charities Coalition/Charity Trustee Networks is particularly needed at this time and am looking forward to making my contribution."
