Chief executive Campbell Robb says he feels his charity can make a business of passing on its fundraisers' knowledge

The housing and homelessness charity Shelter is planning to set up a business venture that offers training for face-to-face fundraisers.

Speaking at the Institute of Fundraising’s annual convention in London yesterday, Campbell Robb, chief executive of Shelter, said the charity was testing an "academy" for face-to-face fundraising

He said the venture would provide a new income stream for the charity and enable it to share its successful street fundraising techniques with the sector.

"We feel our face-to-face fundraisers are some of the most successful fundraisers we have," said Robb. "We don’t use agencies, our retention rates are higher and our complaints are lower.

"We want face-to-face to succeed because it is massively important in terms of investment and income for charities. We know we do this well and we think we can make a business of it."

He did not give any further details on how the service might operate or when it would be available to charities.
