Supermarket chain hands out environmental grants
By Ben Cook, Third Sector Online, 4 March 2008
Supermarket Morrisons is to provide £50 grants to 900 voluntary groups running environmental projects as part of CSV's Action Earth volunteering campaign.
The 2007 campaign – which was also supported by Morrisons – involved 15,500 people giving more than 300,000 volunteering hours and led to 4,000 trees being planted, about 7,000 sacks of litter being collected and almost 7,000 metres of river bed being cleaned.
Gillian Hall, customer services director at Morrisons, said: “We are pleased that the sponsorship we have given CSV is going to help kick-start many excellent community environmental projects.”
Mike Williams, director of CSV Environment said: “We believe that local people themselves are best placed to decide what needs doing in their areas. Thanks to Morrisons’ grants they can now do something about it.”
Projects can apply for a grant by visiting www.csv.org.uk/actionearth.
