Financially troubled charity Missing People has had its revival underpinned by a £310,000 government grant.
The money will enable the charity to set up a new department dedicated solely to finding missing children and young people.
The funding, from the Department for Children, Schools and Families, will pay for the new team over the next three years.
The award provides another welcome boost to the charity after a period of financial difficulty. A shortage of funds in 2005 meant it faced closure when it was known as the National Missing Persons Helpline.
Emergency funding from government and public donations helped the organisation survive. It rebranded in 2007 as Missing People to shed its old-fashioned image and to emphasise that it provided other services beyond the helpline, such as family and runaway support.
Missing People now receives 30 per cent of its £2.8m annual income from government.
"We are very much back on our feet now, and we are growing," said Ruth Mulryne, director of services at the charity. "The rebranding was a key moment for us to define our services. With this support from government, we have the support to part-fund our new team."
