Total raised shows 0.26 per cent increase
The sector's combined income through payroll giving schemes has increased slightly in the past 12 months, according to new figures from the Association of Payroll Giving Organisations.
The figures show that the total raised through the association's three payroll giving agencies increased by 0.26 per cent, or £304,000, bringing the total to just over £116m for the year.
The news comes after figures released by APGO last month showed that more than 60,000 new employees had signed up to the scheme in 2008/09, giving an average of £78 each over the year (16 June, page 5).
One senior fundraising source, who asked not to be named, told Third Sector the two sets of figures did not add up because the APGO data did not take into account attrition rates. Charities needed to know the lifetime value of an average payroll giving donor to the charity, he said.
Sophie Pritchard, chair of APGO, said the organisation was unable to provide data on attrition rates because it did not have the information from its members.
