Jon Danzig claims the charity distributed "unkind and untrue" emails about him

A former volunteer for a medical charity is asking it to apologise for the contents of emails disclosed to him under the provisions of the Data Protection Act.

Jon Danzig also wants The Pituitary Foundation to correct some of the comments contained in the emails and send him more documents he says it has withheld.

The emails are from the charity to its members. They describe Danzig as a "sad bloke" and a "master of misleading information", and ask volunteers not to speak to him.

Danzig's requests have been put to the charity by his solicitor, but it has not complied with them. Amanda Stipetic, the charity's solicitor, said it was unable to comment because of "ongoing legal proceedings".

Danzig joined the Bristol-based foundation after he was diagnosed in 2001 with acromegaly, a hormonal condition that causes glands to enlarge.

He said he received advice from a doctor on the charity's medical committee that his condition was "relatively symptom-free", but challenged this in a forum on the charity's website.

He said he was then barred from the site and had since suffered "two years of distress and personal damage".

He said: "I don't know how a charity could spend its limited resources picking on me."

Two years ago, when he heard the charity was distributing "unkind and untrue statements" about him, he made a formal request under the Data Protection Act to see all the charity's data about him.

When he did not get a satisfactory response, he contacted the Information Commissioner's Office, which oversees the act. The ICO said there was a "strong indication" the charity had breached the act because it had not provided the data within 40 days and had processed sensitive data about him without his consent.

The charity subsequently released some documents, but Danzig believes others are missing.
