Volunteer charity first to introduce safety standard

Raleigh International has announced that it is to adopt a new British safety standard for its overseas activities. The decision was made days before the news that a volunteer manager with the charity had been killed in a road accident in Borneo.

The new standard, BS 8848, has been designed to pull together expertise and good practice for the safe management and organisation of overseas ventures, such as fieldwork, expeditions, and adventurous activities.
