State funding up by only 1.5% since 2001

Government funding to the voluntary sector has increased by only 1.5 per cent since 2001, according to new research by the NCVO.

The figures, from the umbrella organisation's 2007 UK Voluntary Sector Almanac, show that the state is responsible for 38.5 per cent of sector income, making it the largest single source of revenue. But state funding of the sector has remained relatively static, despite concerted efforts by ministers to encourage charities...
