Disability group in advice hub bid

By Nathalie Thomas, Third Sector, 27 June 2007

A small charity based in west London is bidding to run a government information service for disabled people who want to find out about products such as handrails and bathing aids.

The Disabled Living Foundation, which is based in Westbourne Park, is in talks with the Department of Health to run a community equipment 'trusted information hub'.

The hub is one of the proposals to emerge from the Government's recent review of how community equipment services are provided (Third Sector, 13 June).

Nicole Penn-Symons, chief executive of the Disabled Living Foundation, said she would seek a mixture of public and private funding to enable her organisation to run the hub. She said that private investment could come from the manufacturers of community equipment.

"It would be good to get some seed money from government and then the industry would take over," she said.
