Capacitybuilders eyes up international cash

Capacitybuilders is setting its sights on raising funding from abroad to support charity infrastructure as part of its strategy for the ChangeUp programme over the next seven years, published today.

The plans are outlined in a revised version of Destination 2014, which details Capacitybuilders’ long-term strategy for the delivery of the ChangeUp infrastructure programme. The report, which was first published in January, also reveals that the organisation will bid to take over the administration of capacity building funds from other government departments as well as supporting social enterprises.

Capacitybuilders has commissioned a study into what EU funding streams could be used to support charity infrastructure in the UK and is looking to engage major charitable foundations in the USA to try to bring in additional funds. Chief executive Simon Hebditch told Third Sector Online that the organisation wanted to explore as many ways as possible of levering international money into the programme.

“We will be talking to the EU about possible uses of its funding for capacity building purposes,” he said. “We have already had some positive reaction.”

Capacitybuilders is also planning on taking over the running of capacity building funds from at least one government department. Hebditch revealed that the organisation was in advanced discussions with at least one government department over the move, but declined to reveal any names.

“It would still be their programme but we could manage and maintain it for them,” he said.

Capacitybuilders has also confirmed that it will be establishing a funding stream to support social enterprises (Third Sector, 13 June). The organisation will also set up a website to provide information and support for charities.
