Tories seek views on volunteer plan

The Conservatives are inviting feedback from the third sector, particularly youth organisations, on their proposal for school-leavers to take part in a six-week 'national citizen service' volunteering programme.

David Cameron, the Conservative leader, put the idea forward earlier this year (Third Sector, 10 September). Participants would have to attend a graduation-style ceremony and would be awarded grants on completing the programme. It is aimed at boosting community relations and civic participation.
