Compact Voice appoints new chair

By Andy Ricketts, Third Sector Online, 14 February 2008

The chief executive of sexual health charity Brook has been appointed as the new chair of Compact Voice.

Simon Blake, who will take over the role with immediate effect, was chosen because of his passionate leadership role in the voluntary sector and frequent use and championing of the Compact, the advisory body said.

Former chair Sir Christopher Kelly stood down in December after being appointed as chair of the Committee for Standards in Public Life.

Blake said it was an important time for the agreement, which polices the relationship between government and the voluntary sector.

“Now, more than ever, we need commitment from all partners to build dynamic and respectful relationships between government and civil society so we use our different expertise to make the biggest difference we can,” he said.

Helen Baker, interim Commissioner for the Compact, welcomed Blake’s appointment.

“He combines an extensive knowledge of the third sector and of the workings of the Compact with an ambitious vision for the future – a future based on the sharing of complementary skills and experience to improve outcomes for both individuals and communities,” she said.
