VSO launches online fundraising drive
By Rosie Walker, Third Sector Online, 11 March 2008
Overseas volunteering charity VSO has launched its first online fundraising drive with a series of video clips to be shown on websites including Times Online, The Telegraph and The Guardian.
The videos, available for the next three weeks, show volunteers sharing their stories of working in the developing world. They ask potential supporters to empathise with volunteers working in difficult circumstances.
One video shows an education volunteer at work in Rwanda speaking about the challenges of rebuilding an education system while a country is recovering from civil war. She talks about the “tremendous respect for education and desire to learn” found among the people she works with.
“This is a first for us,” said Emma Davies, direct marketing manager at VSO. “The Volunteer Linking scheme is designed to allow supporters in the UK to see how their donations are helping VSO volunteers share their skills with people in developing countries.”
The videos were made by communications agency Arena BLM as part of VSO’s Volunteering Linking project.
