Commission cracks down on late accounts

Charities that fail to prove they are still operating will be removed from the Register of Charities under new Charity Commission measures.

A commission spokeswoman said 1,200 charities on the register had not submitted an annual return or accounts for more than six years, while 9,000 charities with a previously reported income of more than £10,000 had not submitted documents for the past financial year.
