Independent schools want 'not-for-profit' status

Independent schools should be taken off the charity register and moved into a newly created category of not-for-profit institutions, some schools have suggested.
During talks on the new public benefit guidance, some schools proposed a category that would be similar to charities but would have a different set of legal rules and tax requirements.
