Compact 'will get statutory powers'

Stuart Etherington, chief executive of the NCVO, has predicted that the Compact will be reinforced with statutory powers within the next two years.

Etherington said such powers were the final stage in the development of the agreement and that debate now centred on what powers Sir Bert Massie, the new Commissioner for the Compact, should have, rather than whether he should have any at all. "Inevitably, there will be statutory powers," said Etherington....
