Sending enclosures, such as pens or bookmarks, in direct mail packs has been one of the more controversial elements considered in the development of a direct mail code of fundraising practice, which is being taken forward by the Institute of Fundraising.
The final version of the code has yet to be published, but the institute has already expressed reservations about the way some enclosures are used to make people feel guilty.
