Private fundraising firms urged to follow FRSB code

By David Ainsworth, Third Sector Online, 14 April 2008

The Fundraising Standards Board is asking private fundraising companies to join charities in signing up to its code of practice.

The board is targeting companies that provide services such as direct mail, database analysis and face-to-face fundraiser recruitment.

“It’s important to have widespread commitment to self-regulation from all those involved in the sector because, if it fails, the Government will impose statutory regulation,” said Jon Scourse, chief executive of the FRSB.

“That will mean having to work within rules similar to those laid down by the Telephone Preference Service and the Financial Services Authority, and I can’t think that the charity sector wants that.”

An evening for companies involved in fundraising will take place on 1 May. For more information, email samw@frsb.org.uk.
