Samaritans hires staff to meet rising demand

The Samaritans is running a recruitment campaign for volunteers in response to an increasing number of calls from people in distress.
A spokeswoman said that, although the rate at which new volunteers are recruited has been on the increase since 2003, the total number of volunteers working for the charity had fallen each year since 1993, and stood at 14,433 by the end of 2007. The number of calls the charity...
